Let's be honest...most of us, musculoskeletal therapists, we love to use our fingers đ
We are the "palpation specialists", aren't we??
We feel what others donât and, we often connect these findings with a specific diagnosis.
- But, do we really "feel" what we think we feel?
- Are we really that good?
Multiple studies show that the intertester realibility of a number of palpation techniques (to locate certain structures ; to assess segmental mobility, etc.) is rather poor.
So, linking irrelevant findings with certain diagnoses might be very misleading and lead to even more âartificial hypercomplicationâ in the diagnostic and treatment process.
When and how to use efficient palpation in combination with relevant clinical reasoning procedures is discussed in detail in the online Orthopaedic Medicine Masterclass.
